Membership Enrollment:
Membership in the PEF Retirees is open to all NYS employees who retired out of PEF. It is also open to all other NYS public service retirees and their spouses, as well as active PEF members who are within five (5) years of their normal retirement age. Membership in the PEF Retirees is not automatic upon retirement - please call the Retiree office for a current membership kit.
For those who retired after April 1, 2006, the first year’s retiree membership dues will be paid for by PEF, per the March 2, 2006 PEF Executive Board. There is no payment needed at this time. However, the appropriate New Member enrollment form needs to be completed and returned to the Retiree office so you can be added to our roster. A membership card will be mailed to you.
Those who retired before April 1, 2006 are required to pay an $18.00 joining fee and complete the appropriate New Member enrollment form and return both to the Retiree office. A membership card will be mailed to you.
You will receive a renewal notice, with an updated membership card enclosed, about a month before your annual payment is due. This new membership card becomes effective upon payment. You may renew either of two ways:
1. Renew by automatic pension deduction: dues remain $18.00/year - $1.50 is taken from your pension check each month.
OR
2. Renew by check/cash: dues are $18.00 + $3.00 check/cash processing fee for a total of $21.00. The $3.00 surcharge is to cover the extra cost of renewal reminder mailings and check/cash processing.
Membership begins with payment (if required) and a completed enrollment form (required) . Enrollment forms can be obtained from the PEF Retiree office or this web site at Membership Enrollment Forms.
